We are currently receiving many questions about Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide), injectable medicines used to support the treatment of obesity.
You may have seen recent news about these medicines becoming available through the NHS and in primary care. A limited NHS pathway is now operating in Greater Manchester, and participating GP practices, including Urban Village Medical Practice, can provide treatment to a small number of patients who meet the current priority criteria.
The strict eligibility criteria and the order in which patients are offered treatment are set locally by NHS Greater Manchester. They are not decided by the practice.
The practice began prescribing Mounjaro and Wegovy for weight management in October 2025. We are identifying eligible patients from our clinical records and contacting them proactively.
During the current phase, patients must have:
- a BMI of 50 or above; or a BMI of 47.5 or above for people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean backgrounds; and
- at least four of the following five conditions:
- Type 2 Diabetes
- High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
- Heart Disease
- Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
- Abnormal Cholesterol Levels (Dyslipidaemia)
For now, please do not contact the practice to request Mounjaro or Wegovy. We cannot offer individual eligibility assessments or prescriptions in response to patient requests. If our records indicate that you meet the current criteria, the practice will contact you directly.
The rollout is being introduced gradually, and eligibility will be widened in the future. We will provide further updates when the local criteria or service arrangements change.
